Ksubi (formerly known as Tsubi) is an Australian fashion label, co-founded and directed by surfers Dan Single and George Gorrow.The brand is known as one of the notorious, recognised, street-wise and innovative fashion labels in the world, with a diverse range of fans ranging from Australian underground musicians and New York City models, to celebrities and fashion icons such as Kanye West, Gemma Ward, Ashley Olsen, Kate Bosworth, Madonna, Scissor Sisters, Kate Moss, Pete Doherty and many more.

Created in 2000, Single and Gorrow (who spent most of their spare time surfing and playing in a band), were unsatisfied with the range of jeans on the market and couldn't find pairs that fitted properly. Under the name Tsubi, they started manufacturing their now famous jeans and denim, which quickly became a cult classic and their collections reached a level of hysteria in the fashion world due to their fresh designs and perfect fit. The denim fits comfortably upon first wear and gets better with age - noticeably more enjoyable with constant use.

Describing themselves as a collective, Ksubi is known as rebellion against consumer trends and has inadvertently become a social commentator of its generation. Due to its authenticity, ideas and individuality, the brand has become an underground subculture, and a fusion of fashion, music and art. Refreshingly, unlike most fashion labels which are stuck in the past, Ksubi focuses on the future.

After conquering the Australian fashion scene, Ksubi made its international debut in London in 2002, with an installation held in the depths of an abandoned tube station at Aldwych. Following this, Ksubi became a major contender in the fashion league with their in-store installation at Selfridges Department store in London alongside the likes of Stella McCartney, Martin Margiela and Marc Jacobs.

Ksubi has five official stores, and their garments, jeans and eyewear are sold in selected boutiques around the world.

Married to the Mob was conceptualized on a hot sticky New York City day in summer 2004. Sitting on her stoop on Spring Street and working on her second to-go Margarita, it dawned on label founder Leah that while there were tons of great street brands for guys, there was virtually no version out there for females. Thus the concept for MOB was born: A streetwear label designed for women and by women.

Growing up in a city like New York, you're only as good as the crew that you run with and the name of the label is Leah's tribute to the "Most Official Bitches," who through the ups and downs and highs and lows never failed to have her back. Design inspiration for the label is literally up from the streets of New York and its clubs, secret hang-out spots and smoke-filled parties, making MOB equal parts chic, smart-mouthed, and definitely not-to-be-messed with. No doubt it's all New York attitude, but in the three years since it was founded, the MOB label has found female fans all over the globe who can identify with its street smarts.

Love MOB, hate it, stalk its every move, it inspires opinions because more than just a clothing label, it's a lifestyle that speaks to style-confident females everywhere. Whether a MOB tee, string bikini, blog or photo shoot, everything has the MOB crew's attitude, charm and appeal stamped all over it.

Creative Recreation was officially launched in Orange County, California in the Fall of 2002. The founders of Creative Recreation noticed a huge void in the footwear market. Everyone was offering either dress shoes to be worn with a suit or athletic inspired sneakers that were not acceptable at most functions for our lifestyles. No one was offering footwear to young professionals with style. Two long time friends who were already enjoying a prosperous career in the footwear industry decided they would be the ones to change the game.

Realizing that this generation was not going to follow in the same footsteps as the one before them Creative Recreation began their own journey. Being successful in this generation did not require wearing a suit and tie rather it was just the opposite. This generation is in more control or their destiny and their careers. This genre has become known for its entrepreneurial drive. Along with this came freedoms of fashion in the work place and in other social setting.

With these inspirations behind them Creative Recreation set out to fill this void. The two founders simply set out to design shoes that they wanted to wear. By sampling the best aspects from other footwear categories they have incorporated the comfort of an athletic sneaker combined with the materialization of a dress shoe to create the ultimate crossbreed.

Many people have difficulties understanding what category Creative Recreation footwear falls into. That has been the best compliment to the founders. “We don’t want to be put into any category, were a footwear company! We make shoes for our lifestyle, rather we make shoes for life with style”.

A quote from the documentary "Style Wars" by graff pioneer Iz the Wiz was all SLICK needed to hear when he came up with the brand DISSIZIT! You can read it several different ways, "this is it!", the final, the end, the shit, or that we've finally arrived. The designs are courtesy of O.G. graff legend SLICK, who had his start airbrushing t-shirts on the shores of Waikiki and worked his way to Los Angeles, and Danny Boy O'Connor of House of Pain/La Coka Nostra fame.

SLICK is no stranger to the clothing game; for graffiti it was "Third Rail", for skaters and punks he did "Fuct Clothing", he brought you the Asian flavor with a street twist with "Shaolin Worldwide", and he has finally come full circle back to his graff roots with DISSIZIT! His art has been featured in countless documentaries, magazines, music videos, feature films and even an album cover or two, most notably "The Bizarre Ride to the Pharcyde".

DISSIZIT! like to keep the heads on their toes and fuck with what’s hot that particular moment, and flipping it, but never straying too far from the graff. It's sometimes difficult to come up with dope shit every couple of months, just to have the bigger dogs come down and swoop to make a killing. Still DISSIZIT! continues to grow at a steady pace, unaffected by this unforgiving industry where brands pop up and disappear every day, DISSIZIT! is here to stay.

DISSIZIT! makes a sweet ass spraycan plushy. Don’t sleep on these cats! Everything is limited, so if you get it, cool, if you don’t, ya snoozed. Don’t trip though if you miss a release, you can probably get something similar soon after from one of the hundreds of whack ass brands in stores everywhere.

Most had no choice but to adapt to the environment. Some were able to escape or even channel what they've learned on the street into something lucrative. What caught the people’s attention in the mid 90's were independent fashion/graphic brands. After years of learning the in's & out's of the business by starting a brand without any knowledge of how to start or run a clothing company, they’ve finally come to this... "Crooks & Castles"! The concept was easy. "Crooks", criminals, pimps, hustlers, thieves, etc and "Castles" the ones who got rich by becoming a crook.

From the robber barons of the early times like the vanderbilts, the rockefellers, the carnegies to the modern day billionaires - Bill Gates & Microsoft. Those who stopped at nothing to get their "Castle". Hoping one day to be the next rich crook. In some of the designs you might see a familiar icon or logo that they took (stole) and gave it their own twist. They felt that some high fashion brands only catered to someone in a certain lifestyle or with a rather large bank account. Therefore they took what the other brands made and crafted it to fit theirs. In all honesty... who cares? They just really wanted to make some... Hot Shit!

It seems everyone is launching a womens streetwear line this season. Here is the first preveiw of Made Me designed by Erin Magee who is also Productions manager at supreme. She is trying to do what many female streetwear brands are not: bring sophistication and attract an older more mature customer (like me, I am thirty) who appreciates thier streetwear Roots but desires clothing with a little more sex appeal and high fashion.
Erin Magee got her start in fashion over 4 years ago, managing the successful collaboration between designer Kim Jones
and sports brand Umbro creating an exclusive, high-end streetwear collection. Since then she has styled editorial and
video shoots for a multitude of musicians and top tier publications. Over two years ago, Magee joined the world famous
Supreme brand as Production Manager. Here is a short Interview with Erin:

What is your favorite all time sneaker?
EM: Jordan 11 - patent leather black and white

What sneaker do you wish you owned?
EM: The original Air Max 95 (grey/neon green). I USED TO HAVE THESE!!! I
threw them out so long ago...and always wish I had them back!

How many sneakers are in your current rotation?
EM: Probably 10

The collection includes two contrasting denim looks, leggings, graphic t-shirts,
hoodies and stylized leather bomber jackets.
The debut collection, “First to Fall” was inspired by America’s obsession with celebrity. The literal translation of our
unhealthy fascination with celebrity is expressed through MadeMe’s line of super soft t-shirts with screen-printed graphics.
The collection’s premier tee is adorned with an airbrushed photo of Marilyn Monroe taken by Bert Stern during her last photo
shoot, for Vogue, six weeks before her death. Other prints include the “Paris is Burning” tee, named after a documentary
film chronicling the New York’s gay club culture. Created from a collage of New York Post headlines over a six-month
period illustrating America’s infatuation with celebrity culture. Rounding out the collection is the “Virgin Tee” and the “Lips
Tee” – both of which are purely honoring Magee’s main inspiration – Madonna.

Official® was conceptualized by Jason Maggio (founder of Vapors Magazine) in December of 2006 after designing the S/S 07 line for Estate LA. Jason recognized a void, while simultaneously realizing a calling from the streetwear scene and market place and immediately put a business model into action by creating the Official® brand.

Philosophy
Official® is a newly launched premium fitted headwear company hailing from the always inspirational city of San Francisco, California. Aug 12, 2007 – Fashion – by Jordan Chalifoux

Twelve Bar’s rise in its industry is a Cinderella story that replaces a glass slipper with T-shirts; a pumpkin-carriage with corduroy jackets; and ball gown with denim jeans – in less than 36 months, Twelve Bar expands to a full clothing line, leaving the infant stage of a T-shirt only brand with its T-shirt only peers. “It’s a whole different ballgame,” says Nick Jackson, 29, Twelve Bar’s co-founder (Damien Webster, 32, is based at Twelve Bar’s London office and is the company’s other co-founder), adding manufacturing, delivering and retailing are “some of the main things that keep people from making the jump” to a full clothing line.

In Twelve Bar’s Los Angeles office, Scott Tepper, 28, creative director, communicates with Hong Kong and London, finding little time for rest: “We’re talking seven days a week; 10 to 12 hour days; back and forth to Asia; midnight conference calls with Hong Kong and London,” says Tepper.

Despite the personal sacrifices the Twelve Bar trio makes, their attitude reflects Twelve Bar’s tagline: it’s all love. This August, Twelve Bar makes it first appearance at MAGIC Trade Show.

“I’m fairly flattered that people are already ripping us off…”

Format: Twelve Bar rapidly grew from a small line to a full line. How did Twelve Bar manage to expand in such little time?
Scott: Basically, that’s where I entered. I came on board about six months ago and I’m filling the role as creative director. Since I came on board, I’m taking over the design of everything, but we still kick around ideas. Working to crazy deadlines, designing back to back collections and maintaining a clear vision under a lot of stress is how it’s been done. A lot of grinding: we’re talking seven days a week; 10 to 12 hour days; back and forth to Asia; midnight conference calls with Hong Kong and London. We did it in a very short period of time, because we’re very diligent and have a clear vision of what we want to do.

Format: Did Twelve Bar always aspire to be more than a T-shirt line?
Scott: Personally, I was about to go into ventures with other designers. I had done some freelance for Twelve Bar while I was still at Akademiks and they had a larger goal –larger than what people see yet – and approached me to come onboard. I moved to Los Angeles six months ago and pretty much work nonstop.

Format: In your opinion, is Twelve Bar a streetwear line?
Scott: It has its roots in that, but we want to be something larger. The way we view ourselves is as a boutique brand, because they made us who we are and have been supportive, but we see us scaling it to something larger, too.

Nick: Expanding on that, our roots are in the street, because that is where our interests stem from, but, ultimately, we’re inspired by brands like Ralph Lauren and North Face. We will always stay in the boutique market and be loyal to it, but we are going to grow beyond that into a full apparel collection.

Scott: We kind of cringe at the word streetwear, because, sometimes, some of the stuff in streetwear is not up to par with what we’re aiming to do. We’re really hard on ourselves to have top quality gear.

Format: In a previous interview, it is explained that Twelve Bar’s heart logo is an expression of love for all of Twelve Bar’s interests. What are aspects of Twelve Bar’s industry that it does not like?
Nick: The one thing I don’t like is the fact that people are obsessed with following trends. One of the things that is very important at Twelve Bar, is we like to make what we like, what we want to see ourselves in and see other people in. We’re not influenced by what other people around us are doing nor do we follow the fads which can be a bit frustrating on a commercial level. The other thing that I really don’t like, are people that don’t pay us on time!

Scott: I design this for my friends and us, and I would never make something I wouldn’t wear. When I see people following trends, I wouldn’t say I frown upon it but I would not like us to go in that direction.

Format: Twelve Bar has offices in London and Los Angeles. What fashion differences does Twelve Bar observe between London and Los Angeles?
Scott: Well, I’m from the east coast. I grew up between New York and New Jersey my whole life, so I bring that aesthetic to it. There is a lot more in common between New York, London and Los Angeles than people think. But each city has its own particular style and trends. For instance I bring the whole early `90s Polo vibe. I was influenced heavily by brands like North Face, Nike, especially early ACG, Patagonia, early 555 Soul and Helly-Hansen. We were very into technical gear as well as blue collar work wear, like Ben Davis and Carhartt that we adopted into our steez. Nick and Damien bring a `90s London vibe influenced by such brands as Chipie, Chevignon and Naf Naf. As far as graphic T-shirts go we are all inspired by pioneering brands such as Fuct, X-Large, PNB Nation, Conart and Stussy. There is a piece of New York, a piece of London and, now, we’re in Los Angeles so we’re being inspired by that, too.

Format: Why did Twelve Bar choose Los Angeles over New York for its American headquarters?
Nick: The simplest reason is purely commercial. Moving from London to the States, the cost involved in setting up in Los Angeles was a lot cheaper than setting up in New York. However, we are opening a New York office in 2008, because the market on the East Coast is very important and we want to have a bi-coastal presence.

Format: How did your experiences as a lawyer at Maharishi aid the creation of Twelve Bar?
Nick: I think being involved in the legal and business side of the clothing company was a very useful insight into learning the boring things that people do not want to think about. I learned about license deals, distribution deals, shipping, cash flow management and all the boring stuff that people do not like to read about in interviews or talk about, but are really the nuts and bolts of this business.

Format: That could be why several emerging brands do not expand from being strictly a T-shirt company.
Nick: For me, there are a number of reasons. First of all, going from a T-shirt line to a full clothing brand is entering a different world. A lot of people try to do it without proper designers. Scott was doing a bunch of work with us prior to us moving to the States, but that’s why, when we started, I said, ‘We need you to get on board.’ Companies need people that know how to design clothing and have experience. It’s a whole different ballgame working with overseas manufacturers, managing the process and delivering it on time; those are some of the main things that keep people from making the jump.

Format: Please explain the creation of Twelve Bar’s Nickel Bags T-shirt.
Scott: Basically, my boys and I grew up smoking weed and would cop haze uptown in Washington Heights where a lot of the bags had images printed on them to distinguish them. So we started collecting some of the bags, because we thought they were interesting. One guy had taxi cab baggies and another guy had C-3P0, etc. I always wanted to do something with them. The quote, ‘If a nickel bag is sold in the park, I want in’ is from a Christopher Walken movie, King of New York. It ties in very well.

Format: The rising concern with emerging brands is bootlegging. Has Twelve Bar been bootlegged and what precautionary measures does Twelve Bar take to avoid bootlegging?
Nick: On a very basic level, all the key components of our brand, we own. The logo, the name, the phrase – we own it all. If anyone tries to mess with that, they’re going to be in a lot of trouble, because we own it. As far as counterfeiting, we’re already getting ripped off. A friend of mine was in China doing manufacturing and he came across a fake Twelve Bar T-shirt. They tried to rip off our heart logo and messed it up and it was hanging in a store alongside fake Stussy, Bape and Supreme T-shirts. For me, I’m fairly flattered that people are already ripping us off, but as we grow and become a larger brand, counterfeiting is something we have to defend and take very seriously. The fact that people are ripping us off and not other people means we’re doing something right.

Format: How have trade shows like MAGIC benefited Twelve Bar’s progression?
Scott: We’re going to show for the first time at MAGIC this summer, but we’ve always been present there, whether through different brands or just going there to chop it up. We’ve put a preview out of the new line and we’re very proud of it. There are a couple of surprises that we can’t discuss, but are excited to reveal.

Format: Please explain the creation of Twelve Bar’s Crossword T-shirt.
Nick: With everything that we do, we like to incorporate a degree of intelligence in it. It’s very easy to make stuff that is the lowest common denominator that sells a lot over a short period of time, but that’s not what brand building is about. The idea behind it was that we wanted to do something with hip-hop, but rather than put Biggie on a T-shirt, we thought we should do something that is a bit intelligent and requires some thought.

Format: In a past interview, Twelve Bar acknowledges the 12-bar rhythm pattern, specifically, blues. How does Twelve Bar incorporate music in its clothing?
Nick: There is no specific genre of music. The idea behind the brand is that everybody we know has a love of music. It doesn’t matter if it’s the punk aesthetic, hip-hop, jazz or rock and roll. Most people we know and have grown up with are real music fans. In it’s most simple example, the clothing we make is an extension of music – we’re not making a jacket to reflect what Sid Vicious used to wear; it’s about the style and influence that have evolved out of these genres of music.

Format: Hip-hop culture is consistently being negatively labeled. Most recently, Michael Vick’s animal cruelty charges have drawn parallels to hip-hop culture. In your opinion, why are negatives of hip-hop culture easier to find than positives?
Nick: It’s cause people make more money talking about negative stuff. If Michael Vick goes to the park on a Sunday afternoon and teaches 20 kids how to throw a football, people are not really interested, it’s like wow, he ran around with a bunch of kids, but if he has 60 dogs in his house that he makes kill and attack each other, people want to hear about it. People are, generally, are obsessed with negativity. In the golden era of hip-hop, no one wanted to talk about A Tribe Called Quest and positive hip-hop, they wanted to talk about N.W.A. and “Fuck Tha Police.” It’s a byproduct of today’s media and horrible commercialism.

Format: Twelve Bar has a healthy distribution with great retailers. What qualities do you look for in a retailer to want them to have Twelve Bar clothing?
Nick: We appreciate the support of our retailers. The one thing we noticed more and more is that there are very few people that have the balls to make decisions, but when you get big everyone wants to be your buddy – it’s all good, it’s part of the game. But we have to thank the retailers that helped us grow. We look for people that like the brand, understand the vision, merchandise it and make it look great.

Scott: We want to put Twelve Bar in stores that look good, credible stores that we would shop at. Like Nick said, we want stores that can merchandise, dress a mannequin, give good floor space and acknowledge our vision.

Format: Please explain the creation of Twelve Bar’s Racking T-shirt.
Scott: That tee is about getting paint. I grew up writing graffiti and we used to steal our paint. We would body rack it, shove it down our pants, push carts out the store, whatever it took. I thought it was a great idea for a T-shirt. It is an ode to my younger days when I used to rack a lot of paint as well as the golden age of NYC subway graffiti. Anybody could go buy a can of Krylon so I thought we should use a can of Red Devil, because it was only prevalent in the New York area during the golden era of NY subway graffiti.

Nick: It’s too easy do a T-shirt in graffiti font that reads Twelve Bar.

Scott: If I see another Brooklyn Kid font on a tee I’m going to jump off a bridge!

Format: Twelve Bar is going to be releasing a Jazzy Jeff T-shirt. How did this collaboration with Jazzy Jeff materialize?
Nick: This is something we have done with BBE, Barely Breaking Even Records, a label based in London. They put out stuff with amazing artists including Jay Dee, Pete Rock and a lot of others. It so happens that the owner of the label is a close friend of mine and they’re doing an album with Jeff this year, it’s Jeff’s twentieth year in the business. We were huge fans of Jeff while growing up and we thought since our brand was about music it would be a good idea to approach BBE and Jazzy Jeff. He was really into the whole idea, Scott put an amazing tee together and it will be out in September. No one has seen it yet!

Format: Any shouts?

Married to the M.O.B. founder and designer Leah McSweeny swears she is sweet. But she’s still got the moxie to have launched a streetwear label for ladies from her downtown New York City apartment amidst the likes of boy brands Alife and aNYthing, get graffiti artist KAWS to design exclusive bikinis season after season, collaborate with legends in the luggage game Goyard, and, oh yeah, care for her new baby! We checked in with the 'Most Official Bitch' on how she makes people stare and her plans for world domination.

How did growing up in New York influence your interest in fashion?
I think the majority of kids growing up in the city are all interested in fashion in one way or another. New York is one of the world's fashion capitals, so how could fashion not play a big part in your life? For instance… I went to private school on the Upper East Side and girls were asking for Prada shoes in 5th grade. Then I moved to Connecticut and went to public high school and the kids definitely had never even heard of Prada. One extreme to the next pretty much. NYC kids live at a fast pace--it's always gonna be that way.

How and why did you start MOB?
Very simple: Coming up with four tee designs and taking pictures of my friends wearing them! I started MOB 'cause crazy bitches with big mouths around the globe needed a brand to identify with. And the name... let's just say the name chose me.

What's the MOB's whole design philosophy/aesthetic?
Basically, MOB is on some NYC shit that we grew up on. I like to make tees that are gonna make people stare at them on the street and try to read what they say, and then say "That shirt is hot, where'd you cop that at!?" No two girls who wear MOB are the same. But something they all have in common: they all know what time it is!

Are you really as tough as people would imagine you to be?
Even tougher: 29 hour labor with no epidural. Haha. I am sweet I swear. I am only tough when I need to be and that's what matters. Who wants a friend that is just nice all the time? That would be so wack. I'm that girl who you can count on when you need someone to stand up for you or throw a drink at some asshole guy who just pinched your ass. Know what I mean? People have this notion that I am tough but I just speak my mind and always try to do the right thing, that's all.

What has your favorite MOB collaboration been with? Who would you love to work with?
My bikinis with Kaws ’cuz I love to work with him. I think he's hysterical and I learn from his mysterious and snobby ways. Love to work with? Karl Lagerfeld!!!

What's next for MOB?!
Worldwide Domination. I won't settle for anything less.

A new vintage fabric stylee from our friends at GrnAppleTree which starts with a nice minty green cotton canvas and features printed floral motifs on it in a range of olive-y greens, khakis, and and reds with some small touches of blue too. Features cream ribbing on the wrists and waist, cream hood pulls, and cream fabric lining inside the hood itself too. As with all of Grn's custom cut & sew hoodie jumpoffs, this one deftly bridges the gap between being a hoodie and a lightweight cotton jacket.

'Dive' zip-up hoodie
